Meet...the multi-faceted entrepreneur.
A bit about me
I grew up in a small town on the north-west coast of Tasmania.
I have 3 brothers, no sisters, divorced parents and a million cousins.
I'm a Vata-pitta and almost always have a Vata imbalance. (I CAN NOT ditch the coffee)
I don't really have a title because my work includes a variety of roles, a wide array of interests, and also just random jobs.
Hence the new title I have given myself... I'm a Muti-faceted Entrepreneur. I heard it from Jessica Caver Lindholm and I'm digging it.
Like most, my early experiences helped to shape how I saw the world. You finish school, and then you go to work, at whatever job you could find. Buying a house and having a family is the goal. Dreaming is for Disney movies. Friends come and go, and people just do what they have to, to make ends meet.
Growing up I loved writing plays, songs and dancing. I was always singing (even though I really CANNOT sing) and acting. I went in musicals and shows and took dance classes on and off of all kinds from about the age of 4-24.
I moved out of home when I was 16 and finished off my schooling before jumping into a job to make sure I could pay rent and eat. At some point, I wanted to be a graphic designer but was told it was too competitive and not to worry about it. Plus you would have to move away because you couldn't study graphic design where I lived. Or even close to where I lived. Obviously, not an option.
For 5 or so years I worked in a call centre and worked my way up to supervisor, I then left for a "good government job" where I worked for 11 years.
By 25, I had bought houses, sold houses to buy bigger houses, had pay rises, had relationships, and had a good stable job. But actually, something didn't feel right. I did what you're supposed to do and it didn't bloody work. I forgot what I liked, what I cared about, what I was good at. I had no idea who I was anymore.
Eventually, I became aware of how many people seemed to settle. The pursuit of their dreams wasn’t even an option, often not using their strengths and talents and finding themselves stuck in the 9-5 grind.
I love yoga, all things natural medicine, Ayurveda, activism and anything that requires being creative... I took art classes and dance classes and at university, I studied Nutrition and started a double degree in Law and International Relations and then later changed to Entrepreneurship/Marketing.
Talk about a random mix.
After more meaningless work and some moving around, simply because I didn't know there was any other way I luckily saw a video on youtube of someone who was working as a blogger and travelling the world. At the age of 32, I finally realized that there were other options. I decided that day that I wanted to create a freedom lifestyle and went on to work 3 different jobs while studying at university to start to make it happen. (By the way, you do not need to do that to be able to do work that you love)
I did freelance work (and still occasionally do to help out friends and family) for a sustainable travel business as well as an ethical clothing brand and a mental health company and started a couple of businesses.. which I am now in the process of merging with this one.
Your path can go far beyond the one you were encouraged to follow. It’s devastating to me that so many amazing people haven’t had the chance to realise their dreams. This work has become my passion. Showing people what I have learned has become my life purpose. I am so grateful that we live in a time where the options are forever changing. With the rise of the internet, opportunities really are endless.
Now I am working in my own company that helps women to forge their own path and start a business that aligns with them. I have just launched a planner designed specifically for women and am in the process of creating an online training platform for female entrepreneurs. My efforts go into sharing what I have learned over the years (whoa that sounds old) and encouraging others to achieve whatever it is they want. Each and everyone’s story is unique and I do all I can to support people on their individual paths of growth.
So that’s me, I moved to France (Montpellier) with my amazing boyfriend and the cutest dogs in the world and spend my spare time (when there is no Covid) travelling around Europe and my work time helping amazing women. And I am blown away that this is now my life.
